DOH Backflow Tester Courses

How Do I Become A Backflow Tester in New York?

This license is managed by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH). Once you complete our course, your info is submitted to NYSDOH and then you are added to their database for licensed backflow testers. Each jurisdiction in the state query the NYSDOH database to confirm if a backflow assembly tester is licensed. Once complete, you are published on their list of approved testers.

Per Rules of the City of New York Title 15 Chapter 20 Section 4E – note 4 – Testing of Backflow Preventers must be performed by a NYSDOH certified tester who is employed by a NYC Licensed Master Plumber – and note 5 – Any submitted annual test report must include the seal of a NYC Licensed Master Plumber. So, in the 5 boroughs, a NYC Licensed Master Plumber must certify the test report, and a NYSDOH certified backflow tester must perform the test.

We hold an approval through New York State Department of Health ( NYSDOH ) for both the 32-hour Initial and 8-hour Renewal Backflow Prevention Tester Courses. Our approval is listed on their website at https://www.health.ny.gov/environmental/water/drinking/cross/courses.htm

The 32-hour course also counts for 20 contact hours or 2.0 CEUs for New York State Water Operator Renewal Credits.

The course is also used pretty frequently for the Irrigation license requirement on Long Island and other areas, you just have to hold a NYSDOH certification and they can use our certificate for that.
